[ Mindset ] Missed that stupid weekend combo draw again?

While the emergence of life on planet Earth in itself looks like a statistical miracle in the universe, there is a miracle within the miracle in each and every one of us when it comes to the variations of the human genome.

While the earth is populated by about 8 billion people today, there are about 100 billion people who have ever lived. Based on what we know about our genome today, each chromosome contains dozens to thousands of different genes. The total number of possible combinations of these genes that can make a viable human is estimated to be about 70,368,744,177,664. That is many more combinations than the number of humans who have ever lived.

In concrete terms, this means that the probability of being alive at all is unimaginably low. Smelling sea air in Lisbon, eating your favourite fruit on the banks of the Moselle, watching sunsets in Seville, admiring stars in the Nevada desert, standing in the rain in Salzburg and feeling the cold wind on your skin - are all things that most people who could mathematically exist will never experience. This is the real meaning of claiming that life is a gift and that each and every one of us is very special. In fact, the statistical possibilities of personally existing as a human being are so vastly stacked against us that the vast majority of people who could exist never will.

And we poker players thought missing that stupid NLH combo draw again during the weekend was sick ... :-)
