I've been skipping live Poker for almost a month since mid-December. After averaging at roughly 70 hours of Poker per month, I barely made it through what for sure has been my toughest year in terms of Poker results. I've played a lot in 2022 and I've lost heaps - a significant break was needed and some fresh air.
I'm not turning my back to Poker (yet :-p) but I've been busy with many other things over the last weeks and there were a few fun winter thingies on my bucket list. Getting my feet back onto some sort of board was one of them. My latest intervention on PokerFirma is about a trip I decided to take to the High Tatras mountain range with Poker buddies. We had such a good time that we had not one Poker discussion over the whole stay :-)
To get a bit of a break from weeks of grinding, we decided to take a ski trip this month with two of my poker playing buddies from Croatia. We could have opted for the obvious move to Austria with all the world famous ski resorts, but we used this trip as an opportunity to explore a bit of the landscapes of deep Slovakia.
The trip is a pleasant highway drive across the country (Don't forget the vignette!), offering all kinds of scenery, from the flatter regions around the Danube to hilly forest areas to real mountain ranges with peaks over the 2,000-m mark. Štrbské Pleso is a small, very charming Slovak village on the Ukrainian border, flanked by the High Tatras mountain range. It is situated on the lake of the same name and is mainly used as a small resort, with lifts taking visitors to the ski slopes in the winter months and hiking and scenic photo heaven in the summer. The highest lifts go up to 1840 m, from where hikes to peaks of over 2000 m are possible. Accommodation options range from simple mountain guesthouses to upscale wellness and spa resorts, and the food at one of the traditional restaurants in the center by the lake was great every night. All in all, a fantastic way to start the year before heading back to the grind in Bratislava, where plenty of poker action is awaiting in January.
