 WHEELS & ARMS challenge stats update JAN14-MAY14: WHEELS & ARMS are in the money!! For the first time since the beginning of the challenge, I have reached the minimum donation amount of 250€. From this point on and upwards, the donation amount will effectively represent 30% of my generated profit. Unfortunately Javier and Randall put their challenge on hold because of personal stuff!! Javier is getting married this summer and wants to focus on this adventure Randall has has new plans too. We don't know what will happen to the project of crossing Costa Rica or when it can be done but for now, Javier and Randall decided to stop training intensively which means that I will put my bankroll challenge on hold too. I started with a 500€ bankroll on January 1st and yesterday at midnight, I was at just over 1300€. I think I 'll start a new bankroll challenge for another organization in the meanwhile. I'm open for suggestions! I'll get back to you soon with news about Wheels & Arms. I've been kept busy by the Winamax Poker Tour finals in Paris and the WPT National in Brussels where I was working on some coverage. I therefore did not play a lot in the beginning of the month and I am hovering at +/- 850€. I am taking advantage of a couple of days here and there to put in some hands and decided to start something exciting for the coming SCOOP series. I am trying to put money together to give a shot at a series of 15 SCOOP events in april for my WHEELS & ARMS CHALLENGE. Find out more HERE. I just finished my last session for January and it was a good one! I managed to win the Storm2€+R on Stars.FR besting a field of 503 runners. This one allowed me to turn a 4€ investment into a 547,15€ winning. It's R.O.I. party today !! In my last post, I was complaining a little bit about how difficult my start in MTTs was. I think I will complain more often during the challenge if this is the consequence. This important victory obviously gives January a totally new face: SNGs played: 201 (mainly 6-max hyper) SNG invest: 615€ SNG winnings: 668,63 SNG R.O.I.: +8,72% EXPRESSO SNGs played: 14 EXPRESSO invest: 28€ EXPRESSO winnings: 44€ EXPRESSO R.O.I.: +57,14% MTT played: 47 MTT invest: 182,50€ MTT winnings: 615,09€ MTT R.O.I.: +237,04% I am still down almost 10 .02/.05-buy-ins in PLO cash games for almost 1300 hands. This brings my bankroll to a very satisfying 1002,64€ after one month of play and starting from 500€. This is the level I had set myself for late April / early May 2014. Despite this big hit, I am planing to continue to play 3€ SNGs for a while and I will certainly take shots at the 5€ level. I will also continue to play 1€R-5€ tourneys for now with shots at 10€ games and I will avoid to get to carried away in PLO cash game sessions :p I want to get really comfortable with the tracker and put in more volume rather than playing too expensive games too quickly. I don't really know how often I should post updates on the evolution of this challenge. I don't want to post too much nore too little obviously. For the moment, I will post news whenever I have time and I feel like writing a bit. Maybe I will stick to more scheduled updates later. Since the last update, I have tried to put in more volume in Hyper SNGs during short sessions. I tried to multitable up to 4 games and more but I am not able t play my best Poker at this pace yet. My multitable comfort zone lies around 2-3 tables at the moment. Anything higher than 3 gets me stressed. From 6 on, I panic. At 8 tables, I fall off my chair. Still not a Nanonoko I guess... I have played 178 Hyper SNGs so far. I want to play 300 in February. I have invested 534€ in them. My R.O.I. is 5,13%. It is not huge but it's a decent start. The tracker is helping me a lot to take notes on players. This is especially usefull as I play a lot against regs in the Hyper SNGs. I am running kinda bad in MTTs for the moment. Many coinflips flip the wrong way around. Many setups, many weird situations. I have had a 10-buy-in losing streak too. I have been gently hitting my mouse a couple of times when I built up a huge stack only to get incinerated in improbable circumstances - but the stakes are not high enough for me to be able to afford to brake a mouse yet :) Patience! To compensate with the high variance of the Hyper SNG, I try not to play regular tourneys besides the turbos but a regular cold deck does not seem to be better than a turbo cold deck.
So far I have invested 148,5€ in 36 MTT. My R.O.I. is -66,36% . I make it ITM only 16,66% of the time. It's time for a final table! :) I keep losing money in cash games (approx. 10 buy-ins at .02/.05 PLO games) and I won money at a crazy R.O.I. rate in 2€ Expresso SNGs which almost compensates. Not really glorious results but I am happy with the fact that I will be able to put in more volume soon given the fact that I am getting used to my HUD. Additionally, I am satisfied with the fact that I am able to maintain a positive R.O.I. in Hyper SNGs which are the games I was planing to play the most anyway. I have spent this month taking care of things at work, I have been reading Poker stuff, I have had little Poker coaching, I have done no excercise except walking around, I have spent 5 days in Spain enjoying the winter sun with my girlfriend... Not the ultimate grinder month but kinda pleasant :) As I want to donate a maximum/have the biggest bankroll possible at the end of the year, I figured I would play it safe in the beginning. I don't plan to be too nitty with the roll but I want to progress steadily. Hyper SNGs is a new format for me and what is also new is that I am using a tracking software that I have to get used to. I did not want to tilt away 30% of my roll in two weeks playing games I did not know too well, so I played not many games and took many notes.  Randall & Javier I started with 3€ Hyper SNGs and 3-5€ MTTs with occasional PLO .02/.05 sessions. Today (January 20th), my bankroll is: 508,68€ I have mainly played 3€ Hyper SNGs (85 played) with a R.O.I. of 7,2%, I am losing a bit in MTTs (18 played) and I am up in plo cash games by 5,28bb/100 after a bit more than 500 hands. I am expecting to play more as I get comfortable with the format. The graph shows the progression of my roll (GREEN). My goal is to increase my roll by 20% every month (ORANGE). YELLOW is 30% (!!) and BLUE is 10%, which is still ok but... you know... Here are the the theoretical projection I have made to aim towards a possible goal.
