Towards the end of the first month of my challenge.

Hello dear every one!

I don't really know how often I should post updates on the evolution of this challenge. I don't want to post too much nore too little obviously. For the moment, I will post news whenever I have time and I feel like writing a bit. Maybe I will stick to more scheduled updates later.

Since the last update, I have tried to put in more volume in Hyper SNGs during short sessions. I tried to multitable up to 4 games and more but I am not able t play my best Poker at this pace yet. My multitable comfort zone lies around 2-3 tables at the moment. Anything higher than 3 gets me stressed. From 6 on, I panic. At 8 tables, I fall off my chair. Still not a Nanonoko I guess...

I have played 178 Hyper SNGs so far. I want to play 300 in February.

I have invested 534€ in them. My R.O.I. is 5,13%. It is not huge but it's a decent start.

The tracker is helping me a lot to take notes on players. This is especially usefull as I play a lot against regs in the Hyper SNGs.

I am running kinda bad in MTTs for the moment. Many coinflips flip the wrong way around. Many setups, many weird situations. I have had a 10-buy-in losing streak too. I have been gently hitting my mouse a couple of times when I built up a huge stack only to get incinerated in improbable circumstances - but the stakes are not high enough for me to be able to afford to brake a mouse yet :) Patience! To compensate with the high variance of the Hyper SNG, I try not to play regular tourneys besides the turbos but a regular cold deck does not seem to be better than a turbo cold deck.

So far I have invested 148,5€ in 36 MTT.
My R.O.I. is -66,36% .
I make it ITM only 16,66% of the time.
It's time for a final table! :)

I keep losing money in cash games (approx. 10 buy-ins at .02/.05 PLO games) and I won money at a crazy R.O.I. rate in 2€ Expresso SNGs which almost compensates.

Not really glorious results but I am happy with the fact that I will be able to put in more volume soon given the fact that I am getting used to my HUD. Additionally, I am satisfied with the fact that I am able to maintain a positive R.O.I. in Hyper SNGs which are the games I was planing to play the most anyway.

Today, my bankroll is down to 420,27€ after 263 Poker games (SNGs, MTTs, cash games).

Gotta get something going.

Thanks for your attention!

This blog is the coverage of a challenge I set myself for 2014 in order to support another greater challenge being prepared in Costa Rica by Javier Slon & Randall Bermudez.

WHEELS & ARMS is a project aiming to make adventure sports more accessible for persons with disabilities.

    THE CHALLENGE

In late 2014, Javier (spinal injury L4-L5 from birth) & Randall (diabetic type 1) will attempt to cross Costa Rica from ocean to ocean only using their own physical and mental strenght. No motorized vehicle will be used during their trip.
Of course, ideas like this cost money (gear, training, consultancy, promotion...) and Javier & Randall are now, besides training, looking for financial partners to back up their project. The aim is to develop structures that will be helpful to many other adventurous disabled persons in the future. Javier's & Randall's ultimate goal is to set up workshops and leisure camps for persons with disabilities. They hope that their attempt to cross Costa Rica from coast to coast will help raise attention and funds for their projects.

In the best case scenario, they are planing to shoot a documentary movie of their adventure too.

    Big plans!

I met Javier while he was working in Luxembourg a couple of years ago and I had not heard from him for a long time after he moved back to Costa Rica. When I read about this project, I contacted him straight away to know more about it. Sometimes, I just feel the urge to get involved or support projects I like.

To support their idea, I have decided in December 2013 to set myself a bankroll challenge for 2014. I hired two online Poker coaches and set a strating bankroll of 500€ to start with on January 1st, 2014. My goal will be to increase my bankroll by 20% every month playing mostly SNGs & MTTs until Javier & Randall effectively start their crossing in late 2014. 30% of the profit I will make during the challenge will then be donated to WHEELS & ARMS.

I thought it could give a sort of more glamourous meaning to the amount of time spent playing online Poker like a geek.

My goal is to donate 1000€ out of my bankroll by the end of 2014. This means that I need to build up my 500€ bankroll to 3833€. Should I fail miserably and let my bankroll drop beneath 100€, I will:

    1. fire my coaches - someone has got to take the blame...
    2. punish myself for being a hopeless fish by donating 50% of my initial bankroll of 500€ (250€) to WHEELS & ARMS.

Every feedback or advice is welcome.
