I met Alexandre Rotenberg in Portugal at Casino Estoril a few years ago. We both play poker, we are both wanderers, we both love photography, we both fly drones. We were meant to build this long-lasting friendship made of occasional common trips and frequently being thousands of miles apart. He was in Europe when I left to the US last autumn and, now that I'm back in Europe, he is enjoying South America.
We're checking in regularly via the Great Interwebs and we keep each other posted about what's going on. Alex is in Brazil at the moment and he is sending in photos of some poker games in Rio de Janeiro.
Welcome to the Rio Poker Clube!
Brazil and South America generally speaking seem to have a thriving poker scene. I have never been to Brazil but I have recently visited Colombia to play and shoot some games in Bogota and it has been a great experience. My impressions of Brazilians is mostly shaped by online encounters and by numerous battles on the Vegas felts. During the recent WSOP years, the Vegas poker tables were full of Brazilians with plenty of media projects following players.
Something seems to be going on over there... :-)
Check out Alex Rotenberg's impressions of the games at the Rio Poker Clube in the Flickr album below.
Daily re-buy tournaments ranging from equivalent to $25-40 buy ins everyday as well as daily PLO and NLH cash games equivalent to $1/1 with the Sunday VIP game going up to equivalent t $2/5. Loud and fun room (worth bringing Airpods if you have as it can be overwhelming). Very different atmosphere than the casinos in Europe which tend to be more serious. Location is convenient in the heart of Botafogo on a quiet and safe street, worth checking them out!
