Visiting Namur was a special experience this month. I used to be the house Poker photographer of the place between 2012 and 2018 and did not really return much since I left but a lot has been going on in the Belgian Poker scene over the the last years. Among the greatest changes in the live Poker landscape of Wallonia and of the whole country, is the recent mega-upgrade the Namur casino went through becoming the first and unique casino resort of the nation. The location has not changed but pretty much all the rest has. From the outside, the building was not visibly altered a lot since most parts of it are protected but the interior has been going through major transformations.
The old Poker room is now the new hotel’s lobby with the casino entrance and hosts the new main bar area. The Poker room as such has moved to the Hobe room, formerly used as a back up Poker room in the old casino setup. It hosts up to 60 tables relatively easily and the whole capacity of today’s installations is 120 tables, a number that can still grow significantly with a few adjustments and using the conference areas of the resort in an efficient way according to Gregory Puissant and Adrien Cauchie, two of the managers in charge.
Now that the hotel, the Poker room and the bar areas have been upgraded, the traditional gaming area will be up next to finalise an almost 10-year renewing and rebranding phase. The hotel is a whole new story except for its name! Together with the Mercure group, a brand new 4-star wellness and fitness resort was built from scratch and the restaurant offer was also completely revisited.
While the older version of the Namur casino and hotel was borderline crappy at times, the new place offers a great player and guest experience these days and it is well worth the occasional Poker trip. With its new Poker capacity, better dealers and featuring one of the pleasant well-maintained Belgian cities around it, Namur will probably grow as one of the relevant Poker hotspots of Europe with a huge catchment area in the German-speaking region with zones in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse, some of which are less than 4 hours drive away. I did a little bit of photos during my last visit while the Namur Classics were on and the next big festival is already coming up. Check out the schedule of the big PokerStars event incoming: the Belgian Poker Challenge in May. We have a Namur page in our Casino City Guide for those who wanna know more and a set of photos of sunny Namur during April 2023 is online as a PokerFirma Facebook gallery.
