For those who did not know, there's a mountain range with peaks at just below 2000m in the north of Portugal. It is called 'Serra da Estrela' (the mountains of the stars) I crossed parts of the region by car during summer 2022 on my way to a Poker festival in Vigo on the Spanish side in Galicia.
Further down in this post, there is a series of aerial shots to be found. These were taken during a recent flight from Lisbon to a home game in Luxembourg.

After spending almost three months in Las Vegas during the late spring and early summer months of 2022, I spent the rest of summer in Portugal and Spain. I did not make my way back since then and I captured amazing light again when I did so in late January. An album is available further down in this post.
Since it is built on a series of hills, Lisbon has numerous viewpoints to offer for great time outs. There is for instance a huge public park in the heart of Lisbon. It occupies an area of 26 hectares to the north of Avenida da Liberdade and Marquis of Pombal square. It is named after King Edward VII, King of the United Kingdom, of Great Britain, Ireland, and Emperor of India from 1901 until his death in 1910. After he visited the Portuguese capital in 1903 in an effort to strengthen relations between the two countries and reaffirm the Anglo-Portuguese aalliance. Up until this specific visit, the park was called 'Parque da Liberdade' (Liberty Park). The name would have made very little sense anyway under the Salazar dictatorship between 1933 and 1974. The park's current configuration and design date back to an intervention of Portuguese Modernist architect Francisco Keil do Amaral.
Pics of my winter months in Bratislava are available in my photo archive. Late January comes with a Portuguese interlude and here are aerial photography shots of a recent flight between Vienna and Lisbon.
My latest intervention on PokerFirma is about one of the most amazing buildings in town. Here's another article about Resorts World Las Vegas - this time featuring a huge upcoming running event in February.
An English text version is available below.
A new set of photos is online featuring shots of the last weeks. I'm about to leave Bratislava for a while from next week. The Banco Masters is on this week and we'll provide updates via PokerFirma as usual in addition to Denis' & Dominik's coverage.
I'll be off to Nottingham's Dusk Till Dawn in a few weeks for another #allineverywhere mission in the name of PokerFirma and I am superbly welcomed by The Festival as one of their new image makers during this festival.
Thank you, Melvin, Karev, Franke and all those I am about to meet at THE FESTIVAL for your open ears! Thank you, Rosi, at POKERFIRMA for being Rosi!!

The new year started with a bang in Ukraine - literally - unfortunately making our initiatives still very much necessary. UKRAINE IS CALLING is a worldwide fundraising campaign launched by Luxembourg-based nonprofit organisation LUkraine together with various partners.
Our goal is straight-forward: save human lives and help those who are doing so. Roughly 2500 rescue vehicles have been destroyed in Ukraine since the Russian invasion began and counts keep rising. This makes emergency responses to repeated and ongoing crisis situations very complicated. We are raising 10 million Eur to buy 112 rescue vehicles for Ukraine.
Roughly one month to go!
After another stop in Bratislava last autumn, two recent festivals in Tallinn, The Festival are heading to the United Kingdom. The first Festival in the U.K. will take place at the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club in Nottingham from 13th – 19th February.
I've been skipping live Poker for almost a month since mid-December. After averaging at roughly 70 hours of Poker per month, I barely made it through what for sure has been my toughest year in terms of Poker results. I've played a lot in 2022 and I've lost heaps - a significant break was needed and some fresh air.
I'm not turning my back to Poker (yet :-p) but I've been busy with many other things over the last weeks and there were a few fun winter thingies on my bucket list. Getting my feet back onto some sort of board was one of them. My latest intervention on PokerFirma is about a trip I decided to take to the High Tatras mountain range with Poker buddies. We had such a good time that we had not one Poker discussion over the whole stay :-)
Germknödel is a fluffy yeast dough dumpling. It's often filled with plum jam, comes with a melted butter or vanilla cream topping and a mix of poppy seeds, sugar or cacao powder can be added on top. It mainly is a culinary specialty of Austria and Bavaria but it's also served in the Slovak High Tatras as we've found out this week :-)
The first two months of my new year are more or less taken care of when it comes to #allineverywhere. I'll start the year in Slovakia before a hop to Portugal for the end of January and I'll be visiting Romania and the U.K. in February.
Dusk Till Dawn opened in 2007 and has been one of the European Poker hotspots ever since. From cheap entires to crazy expensive games, the Poker room is home to both, prestigious tournament series and daily cash games.
The Festival Series and Dusk Till Down matched hard on the dating app of Poker promoters and the next stop will be Nottingham for the fun casino game festival. It's been a rough Poker grind in Madrid and Bratislava over the last weeks! Matija Sinković from Croatia was the first player to join me for this #pokersolidarity idea. He's one of the most hardcore grinders of the Banco Poker room and and great company with a big heart on top of it, so it was a pleasure to have him on board for this first boot camp in the Slovak capital. 171.5 hours of cash games & 15 tournamentsOnce the enormous Polish Poker Championship has passed, Banco Casino still have a bunch of one-day events up their sleeve for the end of the year. The GRAND WEEK x-mas edition is coming up!
Since November 2022, I set up a charity grind house in the Slovak capital. The project was initiated with the precious help of Banco Casino together with Poker Belgique and is called ' #allin4ukraine Bratislava Poker Boot Camp '.
It aims to regroup players willing to make a generous contribution to our global fundraising project targeting to raise 10 million Euro in order to buy and restore 112 rescue vehicles for Ukraine. Details about it are available in a recent post. The Banco Masters will soon be back in town with a huge new-year guarantee for a low buy-in and it's possible to skip the rake on the first bullet of the Main Event.
2023 will start with a bang for the Slovakia MTT Poker scene. Banco Casino will waste no time and put on big guarantee events from the very beginning of the year.
The Dublin Poker Festival website got an update ! It is now possible to skip the queues and do tournament registrations online. A link to book a room at the Bonnington Hotel **** has also been added beside plenty of additional info.
February 2023 looks pretty packed with potentially non-stop Poker and travel action between the 6th to the 26th. Romania, UK & Ireland are solid options in my agenda with:
- the Vamos Poker Tour in Bucharest - the Festival in Nottingham - the Dublin POKER FESTIVAL The Vamos Poker Tour is one of the latest additions to the jungle of European Poker circuits after a starting event in Bratislava during September 2022. Now, 2023 is coming up fast and the promoters have been busy since this autumn. The result is the next VPT leg announced in Bucharest, Romania in February.
Check, check - agenda check !
The next The Festival stop has been announced for February 2023 at Nottingham's Dusk till Dawn. Updates to come in the NOTTINGHAM tag of the blog. |
